The Japan Foundation and Gati Dance Forum invites you to the dance performance, workshop(check details below) and installations by two contemporary dancers. Surjit Nongmeikapam(from Manipur) & Mayuka Ueno-Gayer (from Japan), searching for new movement patterns. The dancers met in Manipur to explore the region through the prism of bodily movements. As a part of North East India, Manipur presents various socio-cultural particularities. The dancers picked Longpi Pot as an interface between the body and the region. This hand-made pot-making culture of Manipur is preciously preserved within a few families of Eastern Manipur, famous for their skills in crafting these singular black pots. The aesthetic of this black pottery is characterized by plasticity and irreversibility, a duality it shares with the human body.
