The Japan Foundation, New Delhi is pleased to bring an interesting Talk Event –  “The Unknown Relationship between Japanese and Indian Fabric”. 

Dr. Yuzuruha Oyama (Senior Manager of Decorative Arts, Curatorial Research Department, Tokyo National Museum), will discuss the relationship between Indian and Japanese textiles.

About the Speaker
Textile expert Dr. Yuzuruha Oyama earned her PhD in cultural heritage, at Tokyo University while working as an assistant curator at Nara Prefectural Museum of Art. She later moved to Tokyo National Museum, where she now heads the Curatorial Research Division’s Decorative Arts team and oversees the museum’s extensive collection of early modern Japanese textiles. Her recent research has looked at tsujigahana, a form of stitch-resist tie-dyeing, prevalent during the 16th century, as well as the influence of early modern artist Ogata Kōrin on kimono designs. Dr. Oyama is the author of The Birth of ‘Tsujigahana’ Textile Art: A Cultural Resources Studies Perspective on the Terminology and the Technique (2012; in Japanese).
