Short Synopsis:
This film is a historical account about a Japanese sailor shipwrecked in Russia, who meets Catherine the Great. Set during the Edo period, it is about Kodayu, whose ship gets blown off course and lands on the Kamchatka Peninsula. Along the way to Saint Petersburg, Kodayu learns Russian and befriends a local scholar, who accompanies him on his exhausting journey. Ten years later, when he returns to Japan, he is immediately jailed. Will the hero be put to death?
