The Japan Foundation, New Delhi proudly announces December month as Special Japanese Films month.

We are celebrating the acclaimed director ‘Makoto Shinkai’.

 

The details of films selected for special screening are as follows:

 

1.  THE PLACE PROMISED IN OUR EARLY DAYS

雲のむこう、約束の場所 
Kumo no Mukō, Yakusoku no Basho

Monday, 15th December at 6:30 PM 
Duration: 91 Minutes

Short Synopsis: In an alternate timeline, post-World War II Japan has been divided and occupied by two rival powers. Hiroki, Takuya and Sayuri are three children living in Aomori. They become fascinated by the gigantic yet mysterious tower that they see across the Tsugaru Strait, promising that one day they will build and fly an aircraft to the tower to unravel its mystery. However, their project is abandoned after Sayuri’s sudden disappearance. Three years later, Hiroki finds out what happened to Sayuri.

2.  5 CENTIMETERS PER SECOND

Short Synopsis: Takaki and Akari have been apart since they left elementary school. However, they keep in touch through correspondence as they have feelings for each other. Takaki decides to go to Tochigi where Akari lives. Hoever, the train is delayed due to heavy snow, will the two be finally reunited? This beautiful film comprises of three parts that primarily revolve around Takaki from the 1990s to the present day. A touching film about the beautiful but intangible emotion that is love.

3.  CHILDREN WHO CHASE LOST VOICES

Short Synopsis: One day, a young girl named Asuna hears a mysterious song coming from a crystal radio that belonged to her late father, and is unable to forget it. Then she meets a boy named Shun who says he has come from the underground land of Agartha, and although they develop a rapport, he suddenly disappears. A story of adventure, courage, tragedy and growing up.

4.  THE GARDEN OF WORDS

言の葉の庭

Koto no ha no niwa

Thursday, 18th December at 6:30 PM
Duration: 46 Minutes

Short Synopsis: When Takao, a high school student dreaming of becoming a shoemaker, skips school one day in favour of sketching shoes in a rainy garden, he has no idea how much his life will change. He encounters the mysterious Yukino, who is older and adrift in the world. The two strike up an unusual relationship through chance meetings in the same garden on each rainy day. But as the rainy season is coming to a close, will they part ways?
