The Japan Foundation, New Delhi warmly remembers the day of The Great East Japan Earthquake in Japan on 11th March, 2011.
On this occasion, we bring two talk events and a documentary film screening, depicting how the solidarity of people across various walks of life and communities, helped recovery from the time of grave tragedy.

Program Details
[18:00] Talk Event 1 : “Japan at that time: First-hand Experience of Indian Rescue Team”
Comdt. Alok Avasthy, who led National Disaster Response Force (NDRF)’s first overseas operation in Japan after Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, will share his impression of Japan at the time of the earthquake.
[18:45] Talk Event 2 : “Onagawa Story: Warmth of Indian Curry”
A brief talk on an event which happened in one of the disaster-hit areas, Onagawa.
After the earthquake, a group of local Indian people living in Kobe, gathered in Onagawa and provided Indian curry at a free soup kitchen. Later, the same curry became the symbol of recovery of Onagawa.
[19:00] Documentary Film Screening: “Trace the Future: Photographer Naoya Hatakeyama”
Internationally acclaimed Japanese photographer, Naoya Hatakeyama is from Tohoku (Eastern) region of Japan, one of the affected areas of 2011 Earthquake. He was recently invited to the Delhi Photo Festival 2015 where his talks were greatly appreciated.
The documentary film will be with English subtitles and duration of 87 min. Photo books by Naoya Hatakeyama will also be on display.
